Nursery Inspiration

Wednesday, September 17th, 2014

Designing a nursery is such an exciting project! There are countless color combinations and styles to choose from, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. How do you get started?

We love hearing from our moms to find out their inspiration when designing their unique space. A lot of work goes into putting the room together, and we know you want it to be perfect! Let’s see what some moms shared with us to get those creative juices flowing!

Our first example features the sweet and subtle Pink and Gray Rosa Crib Collection. This room was one of the winners from our ‘Show Us Your Nursery’ Contest. The use of soft gray, pink, and mist blue provides at relaxing atmosphere. While it’s a soft color combination, it’s anything but plain. This is a timeless look! Add a colorful initial on the wall to make it your unique for your little one. The frame around the initial pictured here adds that finishing touch.

Do you prefer a modern look? Our next example features fun, wide horizontal stripes on the wall. This coordinates beautifully with our Pink and Gray Chevron Crib Bedding. Mix the chevron with cute, classic polka dots and you have fun result. The added dark pink wall frames and long, pink drapes really make this nursery pop!

If you like a more streamline, sleek look, you’ll love this next nursery. Design doesn’t need to be complicated. A soothing wall color, a striking zig zag print, and a few bright accents, and voila! A  printed rug is a nice touch to add depth to your nursery too. The animal print shown here is surprisingly versatile. You could use a cool rug like this one in a modern or traditional nursery as a playful accent.

The perfect tool to preview different colors for wall, cribs, and floor types is our Nursery Designer.  On the room tab, you can change the floor from carpet to wood, and there are lots of crib colors to choose from too. For the wall and trim color, try the Benjamin Moore Paint options available. Keep track of the paint color names you like and grab a few paint cards. You can use those along with the fabric swatches we offer to get an idea of what the room will look like. You can take them while you shop for décor pieces too to ensure everything matches.

The Wonderful World of Fabric

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013

Fabric is like an artist’s tool. It starts out as a sheet of color that can develop into innumerable creations. From clothing, to furniture coverings, to … baby bedding! The designs are endless!

At Carousel Designs, we offer more than 300 fabrics by for sale by the yard. Because we allow our customers the option of using any of our fabrics to customize their baby bedding, the fabrics by the yard can also be used in your custom bedding.

This provides a lot of room for creativity. You can use a fabric you love in your little one’s bedding and purchase fabric to create matching accents in the nursery. If you have sewing skills, or want to experiment with patterns, you could even make a matching outfit. Then you’ll see the fabric you love outside the home.

Some fabrics we could suggest are Anna’s Zoo, Juliet Damask, and Windy Day. These are all so playful, and they are all available in our designed collections. But these only scratch the surface of the variety of patterns and colors we offer.

Even if you’re not expecting or designing a nursery, you can take advantage of our wide selection of fabric by the yard for any of your sewing and design projects.

My mother absolutely loved the Windy Day fabric, so she ordered the fabric by the yard to use as a tablecloth. It looks really cute! I’ve had my eye on the Sightseeing Toile which has light-hearted drawings of famous places to see from all around the world. I thought this would be fun to use to recover the seat on the desk chair in my home office.

With hundreds of fabrics, you have plenty to choose from. Thinking of a project now? Why not purchase fabric swatches of a few to get the artistic juices flowing. Fabric swatches are an actual sample of the fabric, so you can touch and feel the texture and mix and match the patterns and colors. Let the fun begin!
